Urdee

The goal of this project was to design an app with the user experience in mind from original conception, through wireframes and prototyping, to the final designs. We often find ourselves in situations where we need to hire a service provider to solve household problems for us. Water leaks, really clogged toilets, electrical issues, pest control, HVAC, etc. Urdee provides an easy and efficient solution for sourcing household maintenance providers. It is designed to be extremely fluid and user-friendly in a way that feels natural and similar to apps that users touch every single day. You can use the app as a standard user or a service provider.

Urdee Prototype

Logotype

When I designed this logotype I wanted the brand to feel friendly, simple, and relatable. I knew sticking to a sans-serif typeface like Avenir would accomplish this because it feels clean and easily readable.

Color

Choosing a color palette for an app like Urdee presented many challenges due to the amount of user interaction. Not only are you choosing colors for the brand, but also for functionality. I thought a primary green palette would suit the concept of Urdee well. I also decided to stick with a standard yellow, red, and blue for basic user interaction to highlight certain parts of the interface. This feels similar to street lights that people interact with every day.

Typography

Avenir is a clean simple and relatable typeface. It was very effective for Urdee’s logo design, and it was also very effective for type interaction. The family provides a wide range of weight and functionality, and it felt like the right choice for Urdee.

Wireframe

Creating the wireframes for Urdee really allowed me to explore how the app would function in real-time. This showed me flaws in the original design that I had to change in order to prioritize the user experience. This also helped me flush out where I wanted to go with the visual design of the app.
